The Capoliveri area offers a network of well-marked and easily accessible trails, suitable for both experienced hikers and those seeking scenic and relaxing walks.
Here are the best circular or panoramic routes to recommend to your guests:
- *Monte Calamita Loop and Miners' Path*
*Route:* A circular route starting from the historic center of Capoliveri towards the summit of *Monte Calamita* and the ancient open-pit mines.
Main features:* It passes through red mining soil, Mediterranean scrub, and panoramic terraces overlooking the sea, the Costa dei Gabbiani, and the island of Pianosa.
* Length:* ~10-12 km (possibility of shortening to 6-7 km by taking the short variants).
* *Difficulty:* Medium / Tourist-Hiking.
* *Strong point:* The sensation of walking through an almost "Martian" landscape, immersed in the silence and history of iron mining.
### 2. *Hiking the Capo di Stella Promontory*
* *Route:* Departing from the area between Margidore beach and Lacona (very close to Capoliveri), the route follows a circular route that runs along the entire strip of land of *Capo di Stella*.
* *Main features:* A narrow path surrounded by maritime pines that runs sheer above the two gulfs (Golfo Stella and Golfo di Lacona).
* *Length:* ~6.5 km (about 2 hours' walk).
* *Difficulty:* Easy / Medium.
* *Strong point:* 360° panoramic view of the sea; excellent spot for taking photos and enjoying a constant breeze.
### 3. *Walk to the Sanctuary of the Madonna delle Grazie and Southern Coves*
* *Route:* Departing from the village of Capoliveri, descending along dirt roads towards the *Sanctuary of the Madonna delle Grazie*, continuing to the coves of Morcone, Pareti, and Innamorata.
* *Main features:* Mainly gentle uphill/downhill route through vineyards, holm oaks, and beach access.
* *Length:* ~5 km (about 1.5 hours).
* *Difficulty:* Easy.
* *Highlight:* Perfect for those who want to combine a cultural/nature walk with a swim in the coves.
### 4. *Tour of the Spanish Forts (Historical Route)*
* *Route:* A gentle loop that surrounds the Capoliveri promontory, touching on ancient defensive structures and military lookouts built under Spanish rule.
* *Main features:* Comfortable dirt road, shaded in several sections and free of steep slopes.
* *Length:* ~5-6 km.
* *Difficulty:* Easy (suitable for everyone, including leashed dogs).
* *Highlight:* Open views of the Gulf of Porto Azzurro and the Volterraio Castle.
💡 *Practical tips:*
* *Signposting:* Most of the routes are part of the Capoliveri Bike Park and the network of trails of the Tuscan Archipelago National Park, marked by wooden posts and red and white CAI signs.
* *What to bring:* Hiking shoes or sneakers with good grip, a sufficient supply of water (there are no drinking fountains along the trails), and a hat in the summer months.
* *Maps & Apps:* We recommend downloading the *Avenza Maps* app (with the official National Park maps) or *Komoot*, where all these routes are available offline via GPS.

🚲 *MTB Route:*
The Capoliveri Legend Bike Park, a network of over 100 km of scenic trails immersed in Mediterranean scrub and the red earth of the mines.
